Strategically located in the nation's capital, Coast Guard Headquarters is the operational and administrative command center for America's elite multi-mission maritime law enforcement force.
Operating under the supervision of the U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security, it is managed by the Commandant of the Coast Guard, who is charged with the duty of setting policy and ensuring the enforcement of all Coast Guard regulations, as well as monitoring the performance of its units and commands nationwide. As part of its mission, Coast Guard Headquarters provides strategic planning assistance, operational support, and oversight for the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, Coast Guard enlisted training centers, and the Telecommunications and Information Systems Command, located in Alexandria, Virginia.
This coin salutes the efforts of all Coast Guard Headquarters personnel, as they strengthen the Coast Guard's capacity to protect and defend the nation's vital interests. The obverse features the crest and shield of Coast Guard Headquarters Command, which depicts the Capitol dome against a field of blue and features the heraldic eagle, symbolic of the command's service to the federal government.
